Macaw Lodge is located near the Carara National Park, 45 minutes uphill from the Central Pacific coastal road. Due to the gravel road leading up to the lodge, a 4WD vehicle is recommended. Situated in the transition zone between wet and dry forests, the lodge’s private forest reserve is a 264-acre oasis of biodiversity. The pleasant climate is perfect to observe the colorful flora and fauna as well as breathing pure air. There are no restaurants, shops etc. in the surroundings of this small, rustic yet comfortable mountain lodge.  8 Standard rooms are located on the second floor of the octagonal-shaped main building and 7 bungalows in the extensive gardens. All accommodations feature comfortable beds, ceiling fan, screened windows, private bathroom with solar-heated water, and the bungalows additionally a deck with rocking chairs. At the restaurant, a local chef and her team prepares plentiful, delicious and nutritious dishes. The tropical botanical gardens feature over 500 species of ornamental, medical and agricultural plants from around the world. Cultivated paths allow to wander through the giant black bamboo forest, hike to a waterfall, enjoy a rest in the gazebo overlooking the pond or find solace in the palm forest. Stop for rejuvenating exercise in one of two open-air yoga studios, explore the fruit and cocoa orchard and the sustainable farming operation. Macaw Lodge is the ideal place for passionate ornithologists, hikers, photographers and yoga lovers.
